Oops... your brain did it again

A couple of months ago, when I was deep into my work with limiting beliefs, I came across a study that really changed the way I see life, and today I want to share it with you, in the hope that it shifts something in you as it did for me.

No pressure lol 🤣

There was a study of self-identified "lucky people" and self-identified "unlucky people", and they were asked to do a very simple task:

Flip through a specific newspaper and count the number of images.

That’s it. Just count the number of images.

The "unlucky" people took about 2.5 minutes to finish the task.

The "lucky" people took 11 seconds.

Why?

Because on page 2 of the newspaper was a picture saying:

"There are 34 photos in this newspaper. Collect your reward."

The "lucky" people saw it and read it, but the "unlucky" people sat there and counted each picture manually for 2.5 minutes.

So they literally saw the same reality, but based on their belief system, they saw and created completely different results.

Cool lil story, right?

But now imagine this in your own life.

How many opportunities have you "unseen" because a part of you subconsciously doesn't believe they are possible for you?

How many times a day do you think:

"I can't afford that."

"This doesn't happen to people like me."

"I haven't earned that yet."

And how many times do you stop and actually question these statements?

Most of our beliefs aren't ours.

They are implanted in us during early childhood by our parents, caregivers, friends, teachers, and society (news, TV, norms, etc.).

And if we look around, a lot of messaging in our society is rooted in lack and scarcity.

Marketing is built upon it:

"If you don't have it, you're missing out."

"Try this product or you'll never be perfect."

"Here's a new model of the same product. If you're using the old one, you're less than."

Am I right? 🥹

And now imagine what that kind of conditioning does to your beliefs. And how many opportunities are present and available, but your mind filters them out because of those beliefs.

And I'm not saying all that to discourage you in any way. Or blame you ❤️

I want this to inspire you to open your mind to the possibility that everything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Quite literally.

Beliefs can be changed, and you don't need a 20-step manifestation practice for it.

All you need is:

Awareness - becoming aware of what you're telling yourself that is limiting your view of the world and its possibilities.

Nervous system regulation - bringing your body into a state of relaxation and connection to your inner wisdom.

Consistency - rewiring your beliefs with more expansive ones every time you notice an old belief, and starting to act from the new belief.

If this is something you'd like me to dive deeper into, let me know ❤️

For a long time, I thought I was supposed to show up online as this picture-perfect version of myself 💅 To only show the side of me who had things figured out, and hide the parts where she was still finding her way. But this was a one-way ticket to burnout, because I had to use so much of my energy to do so. And not to mention what it was doing to my self-worth and confidence. (Imagine someone telling you every day that you’re not worthy as you are 🥹) And ever since learning that lesson, one...

As humans, we are evolutionarily wired to see the world through a slightly negative lens, also known as negativity bias, and it is an inherited survival mechanism. Our ancestors were much more likely to survive when they stayed alert to potential threats (like predators) than by focusing on pleasant and positive things. But in this day and age, we don’t really spend our days in forests and open fields scavenging for food - most of us spend our days under fluorescent lights in a stuffy office,...

If you’ve been with me for a while, or even if you’re new here, you’ve probably noticed that I talk a lot about the nervous system 🤭 And it’s my jam for a reason - I truly believe that a regulated nervous system is the key to a successful life in every area (and there’s a lot of science to back this up too🤓). As I said in yesterday’s post on TikTok: the biggest flex in life is a regulated nervous system (check it out if you missed it) And the reason I preach it is because I’ve lived it -...
